Becoming a fashion designer can let you create the fashions that everyone wears next season. The first step to starting this exciting new career is attending a fashion design school in Virginia. There are three schools you can attend, and all three of them offer Bachelor’s degrees and Master’s degrees in fashion design. The average acceptance rate across these schools is 72%, which means that you may be able to avoid restrictive admissions processes. The average cost of tuition is $18,344. However, you may qualify for grants and scholarships. In fact, the average scholarship award in Virginia is $7,041.

In order to earn a Bachelor’s degree in fashion design, you have to complete 120 credits. This should take you between four and five years as a full-time student. Some of the courses you take include Textile Science, Fashion Economics, and Apparel Design. As a fashion student, you spend your time both in the classroom and in the design studio. Earning your Master’s degree after you complete your Bachelor’s degree can help you position yourself as a leader in the industry.

Participating in Virginia Fashion Week can help you network with other designers, learn about new trends, and meet prospective employers.
