Mississippi Fashion Design Schools

The first step to becoming a fashion designer in Mississippi is choosing one of Mississippi’s four fashion design schools. There are three community colleges, which offers certificates and Associate’s degrees, and one university that offers Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. The average cost of tuition in Mississippi is an affordable $3,192. Even better, the average scholarship award in the state is $2,357.

There are several schools in Mississippi that allow you to complete a certificate or Associate’s degree in fashion design. Certificates include between 15 and 35 credits, so most students can complete a certificate in about one year. In order to earn an Associate’s degree in Mississippi, you need to spend about two years completing 60 credits. A Bachelor’s degree in fashion design includes 120 to 130 credits in the history of fashion, how to design cutting edge clothing, and how to bring your designs to life on paper. Some of the classes you may take at this level include Fashion Fundamentals, Textiles, and Evaluating Fashion & Apparel.

The next step after a Bachelor’s degree is a Master’s degree in fashion design, which takes about two years to complete.
