If you want to become a fashion merchandiser, you need a strong education in fashion, business, and marketing. You can get this by attending one of the five fashion merchandising schools in Georgia. All five of the schools have Bachelor’s-level programs, and three have Master’s-level programs as well. These schools are located throughout the entire state.
Tuition costs vary between schools, but the average cost of tuition in the state is $16,123. You may be able to offset some of your educational costs with grants, scholarships, and loans. In Georgia, the average scholarship award is $4939.
Your fashion merchandising program should include a variety of fashion, business, and marketing classes. Classes you may be required to take include Fashion Promotion, Retailing and Consumer Behavior, Fashion Management, and Merchandise Management.
Some programs, particularly those close to Atlanta, may require you to complete an internship or study tour. This allows you to network with fashion professionals and maybe even meet a future employer.
You can also gain important experience by attending events like Savannah Fashion Week. These events are attended by designers, buyers, and apparel managers. Since fashion merchandisers work with a wide variety of people, events like these are invaluable.
