Alabama Fashion Design Schools

If you are ready to start your career with a fashion design degree, Alabama has four different schools that you can attend. They include universities, community colleges, and technical colleges. While the University of Alabama offers a Bachelor’s degree in fashion design, the other three schools in the state offer Associate’s degrees in fashion design. In addition, the University of Alabama offers a Master’s-level program in fashion design.

You can generally expect to spend about two years in school if you want to earn an Associate’s degree in fashion design. Some of the classes you may have to take at this level include Applied Design, Fashion Illustration, and Apparel Construction. A Bachelor’s degree takes about four years to complete, as it encompasses 120 credits. Classes required at this level include Apparel Production, Flat Pattern Design, and Visual Merchandising. No matter which degree in fashion design you plan on pursuing, you can plan on spending lots of time getting hands-on experience in the field. This may include sewing your designs and working with classmates to produce new designs.

While studying in Alabama, you can enjoy its low cost of living. Sperling’s Best Places reports that the cost of living in Alabama is 10% lower than the national average. This can benefit you whether you are a student or a recent graduate.
