To become part of the diverse and growing world of New England fashion, consider attending one of Maryland's two fashion design schools. You can complete an Associate's degree at Baltimore City Community College, or you can pursue a Bachelor's degree at Maryland Institute College of Art. Maryland Institute College of Art also offers a graduate program in fashion design. The average cost of tuition in Maryland is $21,001, offset by an average scholarship amount of $7,085. With average class sizes of 15 students, you may be able to interact more with your professor in order to ask questions about course material.
An Associate's degree in fashion design takes about two years to complete, as it includes 60 credits. Coursework at this level prepares you for Bachelor's-level work in fashion design. If you pursue a Bachelor's degree in fashion design, plan on spending about four years to complete 120 to 130 credits. Courses you may take at this level include Elements of Visual Thinking, Elements of Design, and Computer Aided Clothing Design.
Regardless of which level you complete, make sure that you have time in your schedule to attend or be part of Maryland Fashion Week. This event happens every year, giving you the chance to network with fashion professionals and show off your designs.
