Located in the heart of the Midwest, Wisconsin has many opportunities for prospective fashion designers. There are three schools that you can attend in Wisconsin, and all three of them have Bachelor's and Master's degrees in fashion design. The average cost of tuition is $14,467, but you may be able to get scholarships and grants to lower your cost. In Wisconsin, the average scholarship award is $6,187.
As you begin your Bachelor's degree program, you may notice that your class schedule includes traditional classes and design classes. This lets you learn all about the fashion industry while practicing your design skills in studio classes. Some of the classes you may have to take include Fashion Design for Industry, Textiles Laboratory, and Fashion Fundamentals. Throughout your program, you may also work on a design portfolio. This should include your strongest work, as you may use it to help you find a job after graduation.
If you decide to earn a Master's degree in fashion design, you need to complete 30 credits of post-graduate work. As a full-time student, this should take you about two years. If you go part-time, it may take you three years.
Participating in Wisconsin Fashion Week can help you show off your designs, meet future employers, and network with other designers. This event takes place every year.
